Sarah Thompson

Sarah joined CFIL in 2014, having previously worked as a Senior Legal Officer at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (as it was then known) and as a Senior Lawyer in the Litigation group at Clayton Utz, Melbourne. In 2016, she became CFIL’s third LIV Accredited Specialist in Immigration Law.

Sarah has over thirteen years’ experience in acting on behalf of the Minister and applicants in the Federal Circuit Court, the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia. She is a member of the MIA, and has been a registered migration agent since 2014. She is a practicing lawyer and has extensive experience in all types of judicial review applications regarding appeals of decisions of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (formerly the Migration and Refugee Review Tribunals) and decisions made personally by the Minister. She also has general experience in all areas of migration law and a particular interest in complex matters including character cancellations, refusals and revocations, Public Interest Criteria, Schedule 3 and general cancellations.

Sarah has previously conducted training on litigation for the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and various government agencies and has presented on Subclass 485 visas for the Melbourne MIA Roadshow. Sarah currently works part time, balancing her role at CFIL with her other job, caring for her two young children.
