Jayson holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences from the University of Adelaide, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of South Australia, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Migration Law from Victoria University.
He began his career as a migration law clerk at several migration law firms, where he was exposed to a wide range of visa subclasses, including skilled, student, and family-type visas. He later served as a solicitor at Legal Aid South Australia, advocating for refugees, domestic violence victims, clients facing 501-character cancellations, complex child visa matters, and citizenship issues.
Jayson represented clients at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and advocated for Ministerial Intervention requests. Notably, he was heavily involved in assisting newly arrived Afghans transitioning to permanent visas in 2021 and worked with Unauthorised Maritime Arrivals to obtain their Resolution of Status visa. In 2023, he advocated for NZYQ case-affected clients to remove unjust conditions attached to their Bridging visas. Before joining CFIL, Jayson worked at the Federal Court of Australia, gaining invaluable and extensive judicial review experience.
In addition to migration law, Jayson has exposure in areas such as NDIS, guardianship and administration matters, and mental health law. He is dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals and every client who comes through the door needing immigration help, approaching each case with sensitivity and a trauma-informed perspective to achieve the best possible outcomes for his clients. Jayson speaks fluent Tagalog and is intermediate in Spanish.
Outside of his professional life, Jayson enjoys snowboarding and ice hockey and is passionate about politics and law reform.
