Big changes coming to Partner visas - Family Violence and Other Measures Act 2018

The Migration Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Act 2018 will commence during the course of 2019.

This Act that will bring into effect, among other requirements, that partner sponsorship applications must be approved, before the partner visa applications can be lodged

At this time this Act has not come into effect.

The Act will come into effect on a day 'fixed by proclamation' or if this date is not proclaimed within 6 months of the date of Royal Assent (10 December 2018), the day after that date.

If you are planning to lodge a partner visa during 2019, call our office to make an appointment to see one of our lawyers about how these changes might affect you.

To be clear, the new Act does not affect applications that have already been lodged.
