Associate Lawyer
Rayan Hazim is an experienced immigration lawyer with more than 10 years of practice in Australian migration law. Since her admission to the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2016, Rayan has dedicated her career to assisting individuals, families, employers, and vulnerable members of the community navigate Australia's complex immigration framework.
Rayan joined CFIL in May 2024 after spending eight years at Bardo Lawyers, where she developed extensive expertise across all areas of migration law. She regularly advises and represents clients in matters involving temporary and permanent visas, employer-sponsored visas, partner and family visas, skilled migration, citizenship applications, merits review proceedings, judicial review litigation, and ministerial intervention requests.
Rayan is particularly recognised for her work in complex character, citizenship and visa cancellation matters, including representations involving sections 501 and 116 of the Migration Act. She has significant experience assisting clients facing visa refusals, cancellations, adverse character assessments relating to criminal offending, detention matters, and appeals before the Administrative Review Tribunal and the Federal Courts. Her strategic and compassionate approach enables her to support clients through some of the most challenging circumstances they face.
Protection and refugee law is also a key area of practice. Drawing on both professional expertise and personal insight into the migrant experience, Rayan has represented individuals seeking Australia's protection across a wide range of refugee and complementary protection claims. She is committed to ensuring vulnerable clients receive clear advice, effective advocacy, and access to justice throughout the immigration process.
Rayan holds a Bachelor of Laws from La Trobe University, a Master of Laws, and a Bachelor of Media Studies. She is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and remains actively engaged with developments in migration law and policy. Fluent in both English and Arabic, she provides culturally responsive legal services and is able to effectively communicate with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Beyond her legal practice, Rayan is passionate about mentoring aspiring legal professionals and contributing to the broader community. She has participated in community education initiatives, careers programs, and public speaking engagements aimed at supporting students and promoting access to legal knowledge.
