Senior Lawyer
Toniey joined CFIL in June 2021 after working as a lawyer with Clothier Anderson Immigration Lawyers for over two years. Prior to her position with Clothier Anderson, she worked as a Registered migration agent in Queensland.
Toniey was conferred a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts majoring in Politics and International Relations in 2013. She was admitted to practice in Queensland in 2014. Toniey lived in Shenzhen, China, between 2014 and 2016 where she worked as an English Teacher. After Toniey returned to Australia in 2016, she completed a Graduate Certificate of Australian Migration Law and Practice and her Arts Honours dissertation that explored Chinese transmigrants experiences of identity and belonging in regional Queensland.
Toniey has practiced exclusively in the area of migration law. Toniey has a particular interest in complex primary applications, across family, skilled, protection, character, cancellation, ministerial intervention requests and citizenship matters with the Department of Home Affairs, and complex applications on review at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Toniey also works on litigation matters on judicial review and other compliance matters with the Department of Home Affairs.
As of November 2022, she is also an LIV Accredited Immigration Law Specialist.
Toniey is an active participant within the Victorian legal community, including volunteering with Refugee Legal and, previously, ASRC, and being part of the Law Institute of Victoria Refugee and Migration Sub-committees and the Migration Institute of Australia Policy and Advocacy Sub-committee.
Toniey has a passion for migration law and policy and assisting clients with their migration journeys.
